The Bowlby Library, located across from West Park in Waynesburg, is a public library that offers more than just reading material. Periodicals, movies, on-line access, tutors, and educational services are available to members of all ages in Greene County.

The library began its tradition of serving Waynesburg in 1946, when it opened as the church-sponsored Waynesburg Children’s Library. In 1957, local teacher Eva K. Bowlby bequeathed her home and property to the Children’s Library. In 1967, the library expanded again to include an adult section, and was the name was formally changed to the Eva K. Bowlby Public Library though an emphasis is still placed on children’s services.

Bowlby Library is not only a great place to learn through books, but through peer-to-peer and student tutoring services. There are a wide variety of after-school programs that tutor students K-12 in many subjects that they might require additional assistance with. Programs for adults are also available through scheduled appointments.

Keeping its tradition of providing quality literature for the youth in the community, Bowlby Library also has a rich and exciting Children’s Department. A great selection of fiction and non-fiction books are ready for children of all ages. The children’s department has a large collection of board books for infant and toddlers. The department also has videos, magazines, audiobooks, and educational computers with adult supervision. For those looking to use their imaginations, there is a classroom and even a play area for toddlers and other young readers.

The Reference Department, located in the newer section of the library, is home to a large variety of fiction and non-fiction books. The library also has resources for local history, genealogy, audio books, news, and a large Reference Collection, complete with public access computers with internet-access and Wi-Fi for those members who bring their own laptops.

The library is open six days, and its friendly staff and tutors are ready to help anyone interested in a program or just interested in finding out where they can get their next good book!

Bowlby Library is a member of the Greene County Library System and AccessPA, and is an educational partner with the United Way of Greene County for its educational services.
